Step away from the SALE rack (or promo email)
Hi friends,
I had other topics planned for this week, but it struck me amid the Amazon Day Prime madness and the influencer-led Nordstrom Anniversary Sale… and sales from some of my favorite sustainable brands, we need to pause here to remind ourselves:
DO NOT BUY SOMETHING JUST BECAUSE IT IS ON SALE!
I know. It’s hard to do. I often fall victim to this trap myself.
The best way to avoid buying something you don’t actually need during massive sales? Keep a shopping list!
Yes, I know I spend each week talking about how consumerism is terrible for the planet, but I’m a realist. We all need to shop sometimes and to build conscious closets does involve some amount of shopping.
Keep a shopping list in your phone or on in a notebook in your closet as a way to monitor what you *actually* need. If you wish you had a piece three to five times, add it to your shopping list! For example, if you wished you had a white silk blouse to wear under blazers and cardigans, and you keep looking for one in your closet, it might be time to invest in one that is sustainably and ethically produced.
The other great thing about a shopping list is that when you see something on sale that is on your list, you are rewarded for your patience! Buy the piece on sale and you’ll be so glad you waited.
Let me know if you need help creating your shopping list and don’t forget to reach out for your styling time!
Yours in strategic sale shopping,
Kevin xo
